A standout member of the Oklahoma State University football team, Ollie Gordon II, was arrested early Sunday on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding on Interstate 35 near Moore, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The trooper clocked the vehicle going 82 mph in a 65 mph zone and stopped the vehicle, according to a report. The trooper said he smelled “an odor consistent with an alcoholic beverage” coming from the driver, Gordon, 20. Gordon denied drinking when asked and told the trooper he had been around friends who had been drinking. After refusing to take a field sobriety test, he later told the trooper he had consumed an alcoholic beverage, the report said. When asked if there was alcohol in the vehicle, Gordon told the officer he had two open containers of hard liquor. Gordon was taken to the Cleveland County Jail where, just before 3:10 a.m., he gave a breath sample of .11, which is above the legal limit for an adult 21 and older to operate a vehicle, the report said. Gordon was one of the most exciting players in college football last season. He rushed for 1,732 yards, averaged 6.1 yards per carry and found the end zone 21 times on the ground. The running back added 330 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown. The Fort Worth, Texas, native was named the nation’s top running back last year when he won the Doak Walker Award. Gordon was also a unanimous All-American and was voted the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, and he finished seventh in the Heisman voting. Gordon also helped the Cowboys win the Big 12 championship over Texas. After his career season, Gordon announced that he would remain in Stillwater for another season. During his announcement video, he was featured alongside Oklahoma State University President Kayse Shrum. Around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, a police officer spotted a car driving on the highway and swerving twice to change lanes. The officer clocked the vehicle going 82 mph in a 65 mph zone and stopped the vehicle, according to a report.

The officer reported smelling “an odor associated with an alcoholic beverage” coming from the driver, Gordon, 20. Gordon denied drinking when asked and told the officer he had been around friends who had been drinking. After refusing to take a field sobriety test, he later told the officer he had consumed an alcoholic beverage, the report said.

When asked if there was alcohol in the vehicle, Gordon told the officer he had two open containers of hard liquor. The officer said he found “a half-full bottle of vodka lemonade and a half-full bottle of tequila,” according to the report.

When asked again if he would agree to take a field sobriety test, he refused and was arrested for driving while intoxicated under the age of 21, carrying an open container of alcohol, failure to maintain a single lane of traffic and speeding 16 to 20 mph over the speed limit, the report said.

Gordon was taken to the Cleveland County Jail where, shortly before 3:10 a.m., he gave a breath sample of 0.11, which is above the legal limit for an adult 21 and older to operate a vehicle, the report said.
